“How far are you willing to go to get your revenge?” Darius asked, brushing his thumb lightly down Justine's cheek.
“Is that a trick question?” Why did she sound so breathless?
She was a sensible woman. Everyone said so. Level-headed. Practical. Her deceased husband, Timothy, had proposed by saying, you’re the logical choice for a man like me. When she asked what he meant, he answered: You’re humble. Not too beautiful. I can give you a comfortable life but not an extravagant one. You aren’t ambitious. Neither am I.
Comfort and security had been all she required to say yes.
But there was nothing sensible about her plan for tonight.
Darius wasn't offering her marriage. His words rang in her memory like a gong’s echo: It is my personal mission to introduce you to more decadence over the next forty-eight hours than you have experienced heretofore in the entirety of your twenty-six years.
Part of her wanted that. Desperately. It was as if Darius de Lucey had awoken an unfamiliar part of her that had been asleep all her life.
